Lord Snowdon was commissioned in 1980 to undertake a photographic essay of Tasmania, covering as much of the picturesque island as possible in the time available. The main purpose of the project was to set up an exhibition and to publish a comprehensive book of the Tasmanian photographs. 'Tasmania Essay' is the result. The book is a selection from the many photographs taken, of which more than 150 are reproduced, all of them in full colour.
